June 8, 2026 | 1220 State Street, Santa Barbara, California

There are certain places where a business simply feels like it belongs. For Gallery Santa Barbara, that place is State Street, right in the heart of Santa Barbara’s ARTS District.

When we first began dreaming about opening a fine art photography gallery in Santa Barbara, we knew we wanted more than just a beautiful space. We wanted to be somewhere with energy, history, culture and foot traffic. Somewhere visitors and locals already come to experience something memorable. Somewhere art is not an afterthought, but part of the rhythm of the neighborhood.

That is exactly what we found here.

Gallery Santa Barbara is located on State Street, next to The Granada Theatre and just steps from The Grand on State, a new jazz and dining experience bringing live music, food and a beautiful late night atmosphere to the block. For us, this is not just a great location. It is the perfect setting for a gallery built around nature, ocean, mountains, light and the kind of photography that invites people to slow down and feel something.

A New Fine Art Photography Gallery on State Street

State Street has always been one of Santa Barbara’s most recognizable destinations. It is where visitors wander, where locals meet, where restaurants, shops, theaters and galleries create a walkable downtown experience that feels uniquely Santa Barbara.

To now be part of that story is incredibly exciting for us.

Gallery Santa Barbara brings a fresh fine art photography presence to State Street. Our gallery features the landscape and ocean photography of Nolan Nitschke and Philip Waller, two photographers whose work is rooted in wild places, dramatic light and the natural beauty of the American West and Pacific Ocean.

Inside the gallery, visitors will find large format fine art prints, coastal photography, underwater photography, sea turtle artwork, mountain landscapes, ocean scenes and museum quality pieces created for homes, offices and collectors. Our goal is to bring something distinct to the Santa Barbara art scene: photography that feels both immersive and emotional, with a strong connection to nature.

Santa Barbara already has a deep creative identity. We are honored to add our own voice to that.

Why the Santa Barbara ARTS District Feels So Special

The Santa Barbara ARTS District is one of the most vibrant cultural areas in the city. The name itself says so much: Art, Restaurants, Theater and Shopping. It is a neighborhood designed around experiences.

This is where someone can have dinner, see a performance, walk under the lights of a historic theater marquee, listen to live jazz, browse a gallery and make an evening out of it. It is the kind of district where every doorway adds something to the street.

Being part of this area means we are surrounded by creative energy every day. The Granada Theatre, one of Santa Barbara’s most iconic performing arts venues, stands just next door. The Lobero Theatre, Ensemble Theatre Company at The New Vic and the Arlington Theatre all add to the larger performing arts culture that makes downtown Santa Barbara so special.

For a fine art gallery, that matters.

People do not come to this district only to shop. They come to be inspired. They come before shows, after dinner, during weekend walks, on vacations, during date nights and while exploring one of California’s most beautiful coastal cities. That is exactly the kind of environment where artwork can be discovered naturally.

Next Door to The Granada Theatre

It is hard to talk about our location without talking about The Granada Theatre.

The Granada is one of Santa Barbara’s great cultural landmarks. Its historic presence on State Street gives the entire block a sense of occasion. Whether there is a symphony performance, ballet, Broadway show, lecture, concert or film event, the theater brings people downtown who already appreciate art, storytelling and atmosphere.

Being next door to The Granada Theatre feels incredibly fitting for Gallery Santa Barbara. A night at the theater and a visit to the gallery naturally belong together. Guests can stop in before a performance, browse after dinner, or come back another day after seeing something in the window that caught their eye.

We love the idea that someone might begin their evening with music or theater and leave with a deeper connection to a photograph of the ocean, a sea turtle, a mountain range or a glowing California coastline.

That is the beauty of this district. Art does not live in one form here. It moves from stage to canvas, from music to photography, from dinner conversations to the quiet moment someone stands in front of a print and sees something they did not expect.

The Grand on State Adds Even More Energy to the Block

Our other neighbor, The Grand on State, brings another exciting layer to the neighborhood.

The Grand is a jazz and dining venue centered around live music, food, wine and an intimate evening atmosphere. It has already added a fresh energy to this stretch of State Street, especially for people looking for something memorable before or after a night downtown.

For us, having The Grand nearby is another reason this location feels so special. There is something wonderful about being between the visual arts, performing arts and live music. The entire block has become a place where people can experience creativity in multiple forms.

A visitor might come to State Street for a jazz performance, walk past our windows, step inside the gallery and suddenly find themselves surrounded by ocean photography, underwater sea turtles, dramatic landscapes and fine art prints that feel completely different from anything else downtown.

That kind of discovery is what makes a city feel alive.

What Makes Gallery Santa Barbara Different?

Santa Barbara has no shortage of beauty. The coastline, mountains, architecture and light all make it one of the most photogenic places in California. But Gallery Santa Barbara brings a unique perspective to the city’s art scene.

Our gallery is built around fine art photography with a strong connection to nature. Nolan’s work is known for dramatic landscapes, mountain light, lightning, fall color, night skies and the wild beauty of California and the American West. Philip’s photography brings an ocean focused perspective, including underwater scenes, sea turtles, marine life and coastal imagery that feels perfectly at home in Santa Barbara.

Together, the gallery blends land and sea.

That combination gives Gallery Santa Barbara a distinct identity. We are not simply another art gallery on State Street. We are a fine art photography gallery that brings the mountains, ocean and natural world into the heart of Santa Barbara’s cultural district.

For collectors, interior designers, homeowners and visitors searching for fine art prints in Santa Barbara, our gallery offers pieces that feel both timeless and place driven. Many of the works speak directly to the California lifestyle: open water, coastal light, wildlife, dramatic skies and the quiet power of wild places.

A Gallery for Locals, Visitors and Collectors

One of the things we are most excited about is creating a gallery that feels welcoming to everyone.

Some guests may be serious art collectors searching for a statement piece. Others may be visiting Santa Barbara for the weekend and simply want to browse. Some may be locals walking State Street before a show at The Granada. Others may be looking for a meaningful gift, a Santa Barbara inspired print, or a piece of ocean photography that reminds them of time spent by the coast.

We want Gallery Santa Barbara to be a place where all of those people feel comfortable stepping inside.

Fine art should feel elevated, but not intimidating. It should be beautiful, lasting and thoughtfully made, but it should also be approachable. Our hope is that visitors feel welcome to ask questions, learn about the stories behind the images and experience the artwork in person.

Seeing a photograph online is one thing. Standing in front of a large metal print or limited edition acrylic and feeling the depth, color and clarity is something entirely different.

A New Chapter for Gallery Santa Barbara

Opening Gallery Santa Barbara in the ARTS District feels like the beginning of something very special.

We are excited to be on State Street. We are excited to be next to The Granada Theatre. We are excited to be near The Grand on State and surrounded by restaurants, theaters, shops and cultural destinations that make downtown Santa Barbara such an incredible place to spend time.

But more than anything, we are excited to contribute something new to this area.

Gallery Santa Barbara brings fine art photography, ocean imagery, mountain landscapes and nature inspired artwork into one of the most important cultural districts in the city. We are proud to be part of Santa Barbara’s creative community and grateful to share this new space with everyone who walks through our doors.

Whether you are visiting before a show, exploring State Street, spending the weekend in Santa Barbara, or looking for a meaningful piece of fine art for your home, we would love to welcome you into the gallery.

Gallery Santa Barbara is now open on State Street in the heart of Santa Barbara’s ARTS District.

Come visit us, experience the artwork in person and see why this location already feels like home.

June 7, 2026 | Haleiwa, North Shore, Oahu, Hawaii

Peek A Boo has taken Gallery Santa Barbara by storm! With its bright eyes and unmistakable smile, this joyful sea turtle has been delighting visitors as they stroll down State Street, offering the kind of moment that is almost impossible not to smile back at.

Peek a Boo Turtle

Prints Available

The story of Peek A Boo The Smiling Turtle is one of my favorites. It is one of those rare moments when nature chooses you instead of you trying to force a moment to happen.

I was running late that evening, racing to the ocean on the North Shore of Oahu to capture sunset wave photos. The light was already beginning to soften and I knew I had only minutes before the sun would dip below the horizon. I hurried into the water at Haleiwa, focused on positioning myself for the next set of waves.

The ocean had that perfect golden glow. The sky was alive with color and the swells were building. I waited, watching the horizon, preparing to shoot.

Then out of nowhere it happened....

Peek a Boo Turtle Closeup

A turtle suddenly popped up directly in front of me and began swimming straight toward my lens. This almost never happens. Sea turtles are beautiful and curious, but they usually keep their distance. What stopped me in my tracks was not just how close he came, but the expression the sea turtle had on his face. It looked like he was smiling right at me.

The sun was shining directly into my eyes, making it hard to see clearly. At the same time, a large wave was approaching. I knew I had only a split second. I framed the shot, pressed the shutter once, and immediately dove down as the wave rolled over both of us. The turtle disappeared beneath the surface.

I resurfaced and continued shooting waves, hoping he would return. He never did. As the sun set, I swam back to shore, grateful for the encounter but unsure if I had captured anything usable.

Later that night, I downloaded my photos. When the turtle image appeared on my screen, I could not believe what I was seeing. The single frame I captured was perfectly in focus. The turtle had aligned himself flawlessly with the setting sun. The light, the water, the expression. Everything came together in one photograph.

It felt like a gift.

There is something humbling about moments like that. As photographers, we often chase light, plan compositions, and wait for conditions. But every once in a while, nature delivers something far greater than anything we could stage. That smiling green sea turtle rose up for just a few seconds, gave me the greatest image I have ever captured, and then vanished.

There is not a day that goes by where I wonder if he will peek a boo himself in front of me again.

Until then, I remain grateful that for one brief moment in Haleiwa, on the North Shore of Oahu, nature chose me.

- Philip Waller

June 7, 2026 | 1220 State St, Santa Barbara, California

Gallery Santa Barbara Is Now Open on State Street

We are excited to share that Gallery Santa Barbara is now open.

This is our soft opening, which means the doors are open, the artwork is on the walls, and visitors are welcome to come in and experience the gallery for the first time. We will be announcing our official grand opening soon, but after months of planning, building, designing, printing, framing, moving, and dreaming, it feels pretty special to finally say that Gallery Santa Barbara is open on State Street.

For Philip and me, this gallery has never been just about filling a space with photographs. It has been about creating a place where people can slow down, look closely, and feel connected to the natural world through fine art photography.

A New Fine Art Photography Gallery in Santa Barbara

Gallery Santa Barbara brings together two photographers, two different ways of seeing, and one shared love for the beauty of the world around us.

Philip’s work is deeply tied to the ocean, Hawaii, underwater life, wildlife, and those quiet moments in nature that feel both peaceful and alive. His photography has a way of pulling you into the water, into the movement, and into the stillness that exists beneath the surface.

Peek a Boo Turtle

Prints Available

My own work comes from a lifetime of chasing light through the mountains, deserts, forests, coastlines, and storms of the West. From the Eastern Sierra and Yosemite to California’s coast and beyond, I have always been drawn to those fleeting moments when weather, landscape, and light come together for just a few seconds before disappearing.

Yosemite Lightning Strike

Prints Available

Together, our collections give the gallery a balance that feels very natural for Santa Barbara. Ocean and mountain. Calm and drama. Soft coastal light and bold wilderness. Underwater worlds and open skies.

What You Will Find Inside the Gallery

During our soft opening, visitors will find a curated collection of fine art photography prints, including ready to hang metal prints, limited edition acrylic prints, canvas prints, matted prints, and fine art paper prints.

Some pieces are large statement prints designed to transform a room. Others are smaller works that feel personal, quiet, and easy to bring home. We wanted the gallery to feel approachable, whether someone is a longtime collector, a local Santa Barbara resident, a visitor walking State Street, or someone simply looking for a meaningful piece of artwork.

You will find ocean photography, underwater photography, wildlife images, Hawaii prints, California landscape photography, Eastern Sierra artwork, Yosemite photographs, coastal scenes, travel photography, and images that celebrate the beauty of wild places.

More than anything, we hope people feel something when they walk in.

That has always been the point of the photography.

Why We Chose Santa Barbara

Opening a gallery in Santa Barbara feels incredibly fitting.

Santa Barbara is a city shaped by light, water, mountains, architecture, history, and art. It is coastal, but it is also deeply connected to the landscape around it. The ocean is right there. The mountains rise just behind town. The Channel Islands sit offshore. Every evening, the light changes the entire mood of the city.

For a fine art photography gallery, it is hard to imagine a better place.

State Street gives us the opportunity to welcome both locals and visitors into the gallery, and we are grateful to become part of the downtown Santa Barbara community. We want Gallery Santa Barbara to be a place people discover while walking through town, but also a destination for anyone looking for high quality photographic artwork for their home, office, or collection.

A Soft Opening With More to Come

Because this is our soft opening, we are still making final adjustments, adding details, refining displays, and continuing to build the experience we want people to have when they visit. In many ways, that makes this stage even more exciting.

The gallery is open, but the story is still unfolding.

We will be announcing our official grand opening soon, and that will give us a chance to celebrate properly with the community, friends, collectors, and everyone who has helped bring this new chapter to life.

Until then, we would love for you to stop by, say hello, see the artwork, and experience the gallery in person.

Visit Gallery Santa Barbara

If you are in Santa Barbara, we invite you to visit Gallery Santa Barbara on State Street.

Come in, take your time, look around, ask questions, and see the prints up close. Photographs change when they are printed well. The depth of an acrylic, the clean modern look of metal, the texture of canvas, and the quiet beauty of a matted print all bring something different to the artwork.

A website can show the image.

The gallery lets you feel it.

Gallery Santa Barbara is now soft open, and we are incredibly grateful to finally welcome you inside.

The grand opening is coming soon, but the doors are open now.

June 7, 2026 | 1220 State St, Santa Barbara, California

Welcome to the New Gallery Santa Barbara Website

We are excited to officially welcome you to the new Gallery Santa Barbara website.

This new site is more than just a place to browse photographs. For Philip and Nolan, it is the beginning of a larger story we have been building together. Gallery Santa Barbara was created to bring our photography, our love of the natural world, and our passion for beautifully made fine art prints into a new space on State Street in downtown Santa Barbara.

While the physical gallery gives people a place to slow down and experience the artwork in person, the website gives us a way to share that same vision with people before they ever walk through the door. Whether you are a local collector, a visitor planning a trip to Santa Barbara, an interior designer searching for artwork, or someone who simply loves the ocean, mountains, wildlife, and wild places, we wanted the website to feel like an open invitation.

A New Home for Our Photography

Gallery Santa Barbara brings together two different but complementary photographic worlds.

Philip’s work is deeply connected to the ocean, underwater life, Hawaii, wildlife, and moments of quiet connection in nature. His photographs often feel calm, intimate, and full of life. They remind you that the natural world is not something separate from us. It is something we are lucky to witness, protect, and be part of.

Nolan's photography has always been shaped by the mountains, deserts, storms, forests, and changing light of the American West. I grew up in the Eastern Sierra, between Bishop and Mammoth Lakes, and those landscapes shaped the way I see the world. From Yosemite storms to fall color, night skies, coastal scenes, and rare moments of weather and light, I have always been drawn to photographs that feel alive.

Together, our work gives Gallery Santa Barbara a collection that moves between ocean and mountain, calm and drama, coast and wilderness. That contrast is one of the things I am most excited about. The gallery is not built around one location or one subject. It is built around the feeling of being connected to something beautiful and real.

Built to Help You Explore Fine Art Photography Prints

One of the main goals of the new website is to make it easier to explore our fine art photography prints in a meaningful way.

Buying artwork online can be difficult because prints are not just images. The medium, size, finish, and presentation all matter. A photograph can feel completely different as a ready to hang metal print, a limited edition acrylic, a canvas print, a matted print, or a fine art paper print.

That is why we wanted the website to help visitors learn about the artwork and the different print options before making a decision. Some pieces are bold and modern, perfect as large statement artwork in a living room, office, or coastal home. Others are quieter, more intimate, and better suited for bedrooms, hallways, personal spaces, or smaller collections.

The new website gives us a place to explain those differences, feature new images, share the stories behind the photographs, and help people choose artwork that feels right for their home or project.

A Better Way to Connect With the Gallery

The new Gallery Santa Barbara website was also created to make it easier for people to connect with us directly.

If you are visiting Santa Barbara, the website will help you find the gallery, learn more about what is currently on display, and get a better sense of what to expect before you arrive. If you are designing a home, refreshing an office, choosing artwork for a hospitality space, or looking for a meaningful gift, the site gives you a starting point before reaching out for help.

We want the experience to feel personal. Art should not feel confusing or intimidating. It should feel exciting. It should feel like discovering something that stops you for a moment and makes you want to keep looking.

That is the same feeling we hope people have when they walk into the gallery.

Why State Street Matters to Us

Opening Gallery Santa Barbara on State Street feels incredibly special.

Santa Barbara has such a unique relationship with place. The city sits between the mountains and the ocean, with coastal light, Spanish architecture, palm trees, beaches, history, and creative energy all woven together. It is a place that already feels visual before you ever pick up a camera.

For a photography gallery, that setting matters.

We wanted Gallery Santa Barbara to feel connected to the city, but also connected to the larger landscapes that inspire us. The coastline, Channel Islands, Hawaii, Yosemite, the Eastern Sierra, the deserts, the forests, and the wildlife that move through these places all belong to the larger story of the West and the Pacific.

Our hope is that the gallery becomes a place where people can discover artwork that reminds them of where they have been, where they dream of going, or what they love most about the natural world.

What You Will Find on the Website

On the new website, you can explore fine art photography prints by Nolan Nitschke and Philip Waller, learn more about available print mediums, read about the artists, view gallery updates, and contact us for help choosing artwork.

You will find landscape photography, ocean photography, underwater photography, wildlife photography, Hawaii prints, California landscape prints, Santa Barbara inspired artwork, Eastern Sierra imagery, Yosemite photographs, and travel photography from some of the most beautiful places we have been fortunate enough to experience.

Over time, we will continue adding new photographs, new blog posts, print education pages, gallery updates, behind the scenes stories, and helpful resources for collectors, homeowners, visitors, and interior designers.

This launch is just the beginning.

Visit Gallery Santa Barbara in Person

As much as we are excited about the new website, there is still nothing quite like seeing the prints in person.

The depth of an acrylic, the clean modern feel of a metal print, the texture of canvas, the quiet elegance of a matted print, and the detail of fine art paper are all easier to appreciate when you can stand in front of them. Scale matters too. A photograph that looks beautiful on a screen can feel completely different when it is printed large and placed in a room.
