Meet the Artists | Gallery Santa Barbara
Meet the artists behind Gallery Santa Barbara, a fine art photography gallery on State Street in downtown Santa Barbara. The gallery features photography by Philip Waller and Nolan Nitschke, bringing together ocean, underwater, Hawaii, California, Eastern Sierra, Yosemite, wildlife, and landscape imagery in museum quality print formats.
Philip Waller
Philip Waller is a nature and ocean photographer whose work is driven by a simple but powerful belief that art should make you feel something. His photographs are not just images of landscapes, wildlife, or the sea. They are moments of wonder, patience, and connection, created with deep respect for the natural world.
Philip’s photography is rooted in intention. Every image is made deliberately, resulting in work that feels authentic, intimate, and timeless. His prints are designed to do more than decorate a wall. They create calm in busy spaces, inspiration in creative environments, and a lasting sense of connection to nature.
From careful composition in the field to detailed post processing and premium print production, every step is considered. His work includes ocean photography, underwater imagery, Hawaii scenes, wildlife, and natural subjects that bring the beauty and mystery of the living world into homes, offices, and collections.
Beyond aesthetics, Philip’s photography reflects a commitment to conservation, respect for wildlife, and the belief that protecting nature begins with appreciating it. Through photography, he gives the natural world a voice and reminds us what is worth preserving.
“A photo is only as compelling as the story it tells and I live to tell beautiful and inspiring stories about nature.” - Philip Waller
Nolan Nitschke
Nolan Nitschke is a landscape and nature photographer with deep roots in California’s Eastern Sierra. Raised between Bishop and Mammoth Lakes, Nolan developed a lifelong connection to the mountains, deserts, forests, and changing light of the American West. That connection continues to shape his photography and the way he sees the natural world.
Inspired early by the work of photographers such as Galen Rowell and Ansel Adams, Nolan began photographing landscapes as a teenager and quickly became drawn to the relationship between light, weather, composition, and place. His work is known for dramatic natural moments, luminous color, powerful mountain atmosphere, and a deep respect for wild places.
One of Nolan’s most recognized photographs, Yosemite Lightning Strike, captured an extraordinary storm over Half Dome in Yosemite National Park. The image became a defining moment in his career and helped bring his work to a wider audience. His photography has since been featured in major publications, international media, exhibitions, and museum settings.
Nolan’s work includes the Eastern Sierra, Yosemite National Park, California landscapes, Hawaii, Alaska, the American West, night skies, autumn color, and rare moments of weather and light. His photographs are created to inspire connection, wonder, and a desire to protect the landscapes that make the West so powerful.
